ETMC Tyler is proud to offer an animal-assisted therapy visitation program to promote healing in our patients. The program is titled "ETMC Pet Pals.".
Only pets that have completed Therapet training are allowed to visit patients. These pets are only allowed in certain areas of the hospital and only with the proper consent.
Benefits
Research has shown that animals can help in the healing process of patients by decreasing blood pressure, heart rate and stress levels.
Therapet animals are bathed before their visit, are current on all vaccinations and must have passed 
strict obedience and temperament testing. Therapets currently visit several hospitals in East Texas as well as rehab facilities, hospice, the prison system and schools.
Pet visits
Therapets will visit ETMC Tyler on the first and third Sunday of each month from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Employees escort the therapets to patient floors.
